One hundred and fifty university students whose hometown were stricken in the May 12 Earthquake flew to America this Friday to start 1-year study abroad. It is the first time that the province select university students to study abroad on such a large scale.
The State University of New York offers 150 quotas with full scholarships to these students for financial support. Besides the daily courses, they will get training on managing capability so that they will devote themselves to the post-disaster reconstruction when they finish study.
The scholarships include tuitions, cost of living and subsidy for books and study materials.
Meanwhile, the two-way trip expenses, medicare premium and the pre-training fee are offered by China Study Abroad Fund Committee. According to a representative of America, the program,
called China 150 or Young Leaders Training Program, aims at cultivating a group of young leaders for the quake-hit areas.
The 150 students are from 13 universities in Sichuan Province such as Sichuan University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Sichuan Normal University, etc..
The 150 students will come back to devote themselves to the reconstruction as soon as they finish courses next May or June. (Sourse:the website of Chengdu Municipal Government)
