Since June 1, when the “Plastic Bag Ban” was put into effect, the production of the degradable “made-in-Chengdu” polylactic acid, so-called “corn plastic,” was sped up. To check the corn plastic bags for the Olympics, the sourcing official of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Organization Committee (BOGOC) arrived in Chengdu. If the sample is proved to be qualified, the first domestic order of the corn plastic bag supply will be signed. Sichuan Corn-T Biology Technology Co. LTD, located in Chengdu Hi-tech Zone, started producing the corn plastic bags on its product line. “Besides to supply the corn plastic bags to the Chengdu market, we will also produce for the Olympics,” said Ye Wen, general manage of Corn-T.
Before, the corn plastic bag was weak at bearing heavy goods because of its poor tenacity which have been improved after one-month research.
So far, the finished five product lines can produce four tons of degradable plastic pellicle per day. “The first batch of products will be distributed to meet the local demand. Further, we will supply to domestic distributors. Meanwhile, we will also produce corn plastic grain as the original resource for the plastic factories around the country,” Ye said.
Sourcing officials of BOGOC arrived in Chengdu on June 10 to check the sample of corn plastic. As an emerging product, the corn plastic hasn’t been popularized. If the corm plastic’s degradable index is proved qualified, the sourcing officials will sample from the product line for further checking in Beijing. If the technique and market proof-test passes, BOGOC will buy over 100 tons of such kind of plastic product.
According to a nationwide investigation conducted this May by researchers of Sichuan University, the corn plastic made in Chengdu ranks the first among such kind of product around the country.
