Over 30 local sculptors including Zhu Cheng, Tan Yun, Deng Le, Zhao Li, Tan Fei, Qian Sihua, Shen Yunqing, etc., will launch an activity to make sculptures for every descendent in Wenchuan Earthquake. It is learnt that local sculptors will make head portrait for every descendent with the form of embossment, which will be carved on the monument for the earthquake disaster relief. The monument will probably be located in Yingxiu Township.
Tan Yun, one of the sculptors who participated in the activity, said that they will do a team work to make sculptures for thousands of compatriots who died in the quake.
All the sculptures will make of the monument to express condolence to the decedents. “The monument, with an area of more than 6.7 hectares, will be finished in the form of a wall,” said Tan Yun, “we will get the head patriot from their ID cards. If it is difficult in getting photos of the decedents, we will put their names onto the monument.”
How long will it take to finish such a large sculpture work? According to Tan Yun, it will take one or two days to finish one head sculpture. Therefore the work load of the sculptors is very heavy so that only local sculptors can not manage so great work. He said they will invite sculptors around the country or the world to join in their team. So far, students and teachers from nine sculpture universities around the country expressed their wish to participate. It will take three years to finish the whole work and the studio will be established at Jianchuan Museum where the creation is to start, based on the photos which record the dead compatriots in the earthquake.
