City Promises More Jobs for Victims

  City offers more than 20,000 jobs for victims

  Up to May 27, the city’s employment aid center had secured 23,700 jobs for victims from the quake-stricken areas. They were offered by various units, companies and departments of the city. About 158 intention agreements between victims and employers have been inked. A total of 116 people are employed formally.

  Chenghua District offers skill training for victims

  “Skill training for people in the Chenghua District Resettlement Point is required to start so that they can devote to the reconstruction when they go back to their homeland.” All the resettlement points in Chenghua District are required to offer skill training to victims from quake-stricken areas, according to officials of relevant departments in the district.

  A reconstruction plan is rolling out in Chenghua District, which aims at erasing the sadness of the victims by offering skill training to them. The resettlement points will help victims prepare for the reconstruction of homeland.

  “The training involves all kinds of skills for the reconstruction and the employment of the victims,” introduced Sun Wei, official of Chenghua District’s Labor Bureau.

  “We will offer customized service and training to the victims. On the one hand, they can grasp some professional skills. On the other hand, their confidence for the reconstruction will be enhanced,” said Xia Xingzhi, principal of Chenghua District Labor Bureau.

  Ms. Deng from Dujiangyan said that although she ran a Nongjiale (farmers’ catering business) for many years before the quake, she knew little about management and comity. She hoped to study such knowledge during the training. “When the courses about Nongjiale operation will be launched?” she asked when she knew the operation course of Nongjiale and kiwi fruit planting were offered. It is said that health care, psychological comfort, etiquette for the aged people, Mandarin training, and social dance will be launched in the resettlement point.

  Nutriology and medical treatment courses will be offered for the aged by Chenghua District Health Bureau. Besides, to upgrade the life quality of the victims, the skill training center in the resettlement point will also teach the victims how to take care of children and the disabled, and how to operate grocery stores.

  Dujiangyan offers 16,000 vacancies to victims

  A job fair was announced by Dujiangyan Labor and Employment Bureau at the Happy Resettlement Point, May 26. On May 28, The job fair was held offering more than 16,000 vacancies exclusively for the quake victims. In the future, the job fairs especially for the victims will be held on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. According to Dujiangyan Labor and Employment Bureau, the vacancies are from Chengdu Human Resource Market, Dujiangyan and Hangzhou respectively. Till May 24, a total of 2,213 victims had registered their job demand. 

  One-stop aid center for victims

  A victims’ aid center, named Love Community Aid Center, was established at Chenghua District, May 28. The first batch of units involved in the center including Chenghua District Labor Bureau, Chenghua District Health Bureau, Chenghua District Housing Management Bureau and other governmental departments which will offer one-stop service for quake victims. Over 300 victims resettled in the aid center will enjoy all kinds of service offered by the center.

  “I have found a job. The salary is 900 yuan per month,” said Wang Changqiang, a victim from Wenchuan. He was recommended by the center to be a conservator of a service company, together with Li Ke, another victim from Dujiangyan. According to Li, he registered his job demand at the center in the morning. To his surprise, he got a job in the afternoon.

  Victims take employment priority

  Chinese Division of Yum! Brands Inc., with KFC and Pizza Hut under its brand, announced May 28 the company will give the employment priority to job seekers from the earthquake-stricken areas as a way to support the reconstruction of these areas.

  Su Jingshi, president of Yum! Brands Inc., Chinese Division, said, “The homeland of people was ravaged in the disaster. Many people have lost their jobs. We hope to employ these victims at priority so that we can mitigate their life difficulties.”

  Nowadays, KFC and Pizza Hut have owned more that 2,500 outlets around China. In the coming year, the two brands will offer nearly 30,000 vacancies with the development of their business. According to Luo Shuying, chief HR manager of Yum! Brands Inc., Chinese Division, as long as the job seekers can prove they are from the earthquake-stricken areas including Wenchuan, Beichuan, Mianyang, Pengzhou, Shifang, etc., the company will employ them at priority.
