After 4-year reconstruction and with an investment of RMB600 million, the reconstruction project of the Wide and Narrow Alleys is a single local travel item with the most governmental investment. The revitalized Wide and Narrow Alleys were unveiled on June 14. The old street block, being endowed with the symbol of the city, attracts more and more tourists home and abroad. As the symbol of local tourism revitalization after the Wenchuan Earthquake, the opening of the old street block seems very significant.
After the earthquake, the project was resumed after one-day all-round examination. Chengdu is confident for the revitalization of the local tourism. Only one month after the earthquake, thousands of tourists all over the world swarmed to the Wide and Narrow Alleys to see the so-called“Card of Chengdu”. The opening of the old street block also shows that Chengdu is still a charming city and the old street block is the place with the most typical Chengdu style.
The old street block, consists of the Wide, Narrow and Jing alleys, the three parallel old streets, with the core area of 7.2 hectares and extended area of 32 hectares. The block belongs to the three local historical and cultural protection areas and was placed in the layout of Chengdu Historical and Cultural Area Protection in 1980s. The block is the lastest model to show the old Chengdu and shows the combination of the northern bystreet and southern architecture style.
The revitalized Wide and Narrow Alleys combine local and exotic yummy food such as Sichuan dishes, Indian food and French Chocolate. Here, people can experience the relaxed ambience of the city and the fashion from Europe. (Chengdu Weekly)
