Abuse of Panda Images to be Outlaw

The commercial exploitation of panda images may be outlawed if a planned law is passed by the city’s legislature. The Chengdu People’s Congress has begun deliberation of enacting a law on panda protection outlined by the municipal bureaus of forestry and gardening. Once passed, it would become the world’s first panda protection law. The idea of such a law comes in the wake of abuses and distortion of panda images in return for profits and moral condemnation is weak in stopping abusive activities. The giant panda is deemed as a national treasure and in Chengdu the panda is an asset representing the city’s image.
