More elderly people in China choose a life of migrant birds - in midsummer, they go to small towns in the north to rid themselves from the hot, humid weather in the south and, in severe winter, they head for the south to avoid the bleak sky and windy weather in the north. The migration of gray-haired population helps to foster a new economy of tourism that many travel agencies have tailored special travel routes for the elderly people while Chengdu has become a favorite city among them because of its mild climate and leisurely life.
Wang Suhua, a 65-year old woman from Henan Province, came to the People’s Park in Chengdu with her husband on Thursday morning. Everyday, the couple goes to the park to exercise shadowboxing. During the interval, they accepted a proposal by a local elderly man who invited them for a visit to Nongjiale in Sansheng Village. A typical couple choosing the“migrant bird life”, Wang Suhua and her husband fly to Chengdu twice every year from their hometown in Henan. Last year, the couple spent their first winter in the city.
This year, the couple plans to buy an apartment in Chengdu to settle down for a relatively long time.“Chengdu is really a suitable habitat for us elderly people,”said Wang.
More and more elderly people follow Wang’s suit and fall in love with such a kind of life, which drives the flourishing of the nursing home in many places. Reports from a sanatorium in the city show that most elderly people from other places come to Chengdu because of it mild climate, ample vegetables and relaxed life.
