Ethnic Composition and Distribution in 2007

  Sichuan Province is inhabited by multiple ethnic groups. There are 55 ethnic groups with a population of 4.22 million in Sichuan. The Yi, Zang, Qiang, Miao, Mongolian, Tujia, Lisu, Manchu, Naxi, Bouyei, Bai, Zhuang, and Dai are indigenous ethnic groups in the Province. Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Ganzi Zang Autonomous Prefecture, Aba Zang and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Mabian Yi Autonomous County, Ebian Yi Autonomous County and Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County are habitations for ethnic groups. 18 cities like Chengdu, Guangyuan and Yibin are scattered habitations for ethnic groups. As of the end of 2001, the population of ethnic groups in scattered habitation was 800,000. 6 counties (or districts) like Shimian, Hanyuan and Jinkouhe enjoy preferential treatment of ethnic regions, and there were also 94 ethnic villages such as Qiaoqi Village in Baoxing County and Dayuan Village in Qingchuan County. Sichuan Province is the only habitation for the Qiang ethnic group as well as the largest habitation for the Yi ethnic group in China, and is the second inhabited area for the Zang ethnic group in China.
